Is Matheson Avoiding Scrutiny of Face-to-Face Town Hall Meetings?
For Immediate Release
Philpot Says Lack of In-Person Town Hall Meetings Demonstrates a Failure to Properly Serve the Voters in Utah’s 2nd District
Salt Lake City, Utah — June 22, 2010 — Morgan Philpot, Republican candidate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, has announced a proposed schedule of six joint in-person town hall meetings across the district. Unlike the rest of Utah’s congressional delegation, Congressman Jim Matheson stopped holding in-person town halls back in 2008.
“You cannot say you represent the people if you are unwilling to meet with them face-to-face and hear their concerns and criticisms,” said Morgan Philpot, Republican candidate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. “As I have traveled across the state over the past several months and met with thousands of voters, I have heard one question over and over again ‘where is my congressman?’ This effort to hold in-person town hall meetings is in response to that frustration of the voters with Jim’s unwillingness to come and discuss issues face to face.”
Matheson only conducts teleconference calls, which are much easier to control and are only held while he is away in Washington DC. By comparison, Representative Jason Chaffetz held approximately 15 in-person town hall meetings over the past 18 months.
“I offer an invitation to Jim to join me and participate with me in this series of six in-person town halls across the state where we can both hear and address the voters directly and in-person. In creating the list of events, we have been mindful of Jim’s DC schedule,” said Philpot. “We have also been careful in creating a meeting format that will allow equal time for each candidate to meet voters, hear their concerns, and answer any questions they may have.”

If I were Jim I wouldn't want to face my constituents either, lol! Go right ahead and keep your head in the sand Jim, you have lost my confidence AND my vote! Go Philpot!
Jim Matheson raised the debt level twice . We need Morgan Philpot so we stop spending money we don't have. Congress has no control on the budget.
Matheson has been sitting on the fence.
Matheson voted to change the rules so Obamacare would pass, then voted against it, and then said he wouldn’t vote to repeal it.
Both sides should be ticked at him.
I have more faith in Morgan to help lead us out of this mess. I have been on three of congressman matheson's phone conferences and my question on health care was so twisted. I send emails, letters and have tried to make an appointment with him for 18 months, (still haven't had but one contact on that). Go home jim, you have helped do enough harm to this country.
I am ashamed of voting for JM in 06. But I was fooled by his "blue dog" rhetoric. But now I know, there is NO SUCH THING as a moderate democRAT. His Telephone Town Halls are scripted and so bogus. He wasted my time and for that, I decided to look into Mr. Philpot. After meeting him in person, he was SO REAL. Kids & wife in a mini-van, not a family name on a Federal Courthouse. And for the sheeple of UTAH who say "JM is a good man and so was his father Yadda, Yadda talkingpoints," WAKE UP! We the People - have to vote out the establishment status quo ASAP so that our REPUBLIC may survive. On a similar note, please call Sheri Swensen (county recorder) and tell her that she is mistaken. (interview from early August) WE DO NOT LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY but rather a REPUBLIC and she should know this. Better yet, lets show washington we know the difference and vote out the swamp Pelosi promised to clean out. It starts locally with a vote for MORGAN PHILPOT.
At the DRF lunhceon yesterday I was disappointed in what sounded to me like you are very soft on ILLEGAL ALIENS. Go to Mike Lee's site and he leaves no doubt his desire, like mine to send them ALL back. It was done after WW2 and can be done again. Save our land many brave men have died for.
